Dr. David Wachira – Chief Executive Officer

Dr. David Wachira is the CEO of Waya and a former World Bank finance specialist.

As an immigrant in the US, he recognizes the urgent need for a secure and efficient remittance platform that could serve the diaspora community. 

Wachira holds a Ph.D. from Cornell University Graduate School in Finance and Banking Corporate Finance and Banking. He also has a diploma in Agricultural Economics from the University of New England

Hempstone Maroria – Chief Technology Officer

Hempstone is an entrepreneur, software engineer, and experienced professional in fintech, mobile payments, eCommerce, mobile value-added services, and disruptive technologies.

Maroria previously founded a Kenyan-based Digital and Technology Company, Creative Brands Group, that enables SMEs in the USA, Kenya, and sub-Saharan Africa to leverage Digital Media, Technology, and Innovation to steer their businesses to the next level. 

The company also builds innovative products and solutions in Mobile Communications; Mobile Value Added Services, and eCommerce.

He is passionate about excellence in service delivery and simplification of day-to-day problems through innovation and technology. He enjoys working in challenging and dynamic environments where one can grow, learn, share, and have fun simultaneously.

Wachira and Maroria first met by chance at a Nairobi restaurant in 2018, where they discovered their shared vision to bridge the gap between financial institutions and financial inclusion for immigrants in the United States.

They used their expertise to come up with WayaPay, later renamed Waya, to encompass their broad fintech and modern banking service potential.
